Women of Substance, LLC is a fee-only financial planning firm committed to helping independent women in the professions, entrepreneurs, and business leaders. Our clients, or members of our growing community as we like to consider them, are looking for unbiased guidance and financial advice for deciding how to navigate life’s many stages and transitions.

The navigation begins by working through our unique Power of the Purse Planning Process™. Our experts help eliminate any potential feelings of anxiety or pressure that can sometimes be associated with preparing for retirement, the loss of a spouse, the loss of a job, or a divorce.

Some of our members have also shared stories involving tremendous burdens of guilt caused by the emotional trade-offs of building a career but then feeling like they neglected their roles as a mother, wife, and daughter because of the demands of their careers.

But it doesn’t have to feel that way.

With a proper planning process, you can continue to serve, to give your time, share your gifts and talents, and enjoy the financial freedom and lifestyle you have worked so hard to achieve.

Thank you for being here. We look forward to learning more about how we can help you live the life you have always wanted.

Need help with taking charge of your finances? Let’s schedule a time to sit down and explore where you are today and how to plan for tomorrow. As always, we are here to help.

Why Women Of Substance?

Why Women of Substance?

We’re used to deferring responsibility for our money to a male figure in our lives – husbands, fathers, or someone else. Then we’re often disappointed when we realize it’s too late to reverse what was done in good faith.

We founded Women of Substance to solve this problem by exclusively serving the needs of women who want to ensure their financial future is every bit as secure as the life they’re accustomed to living. Our clients have lives as mothers, wives, and daughters as well as careers atop the medical field. Each of these important roles requires a well-crafted plan for the next stages of life. By asking the right questions, and through proper guidance, we create customized action plans for our clients so life’s challenges can be addressed with confidence.

As a client of Women of Substance, you become a member in our community of independent women who share common concerns, such as:

  • Will I have enough money for retirement, or, will I end up a bag lady?
  • If I lose my job, should I use up my 401(k) until I get a new job?
  • What can I do when a family member tells me they’ll “handle” my finances and I don’t think they know what they’re doing?
  • How can I manage if Mom needs to come live with me?
  • How would I survive if I had to go through a divorce?

This exclusive program provides members with:

  • Our Power of the Purse Planning Process™
  • Detailed Investment Journal that maps your financials goals with a plan to attain them
  • Invitation to private events and forums designed for Women of Substance members
  • Access to our WoS monthly newsletter
  • Concierge service that relieves you of many day-to-day tasks through assistants and high-level support staff because we care about the quality of your whole life — not just your financial life.

Our Power of the Purse Planning Process TM

Power of the Purse Planning Process™

Our fee-only financial planning experts eliminate the fear and uncertainty that sometimes surrounds money by applying our Power of the Purse Planning Process™. Our Women of Substance members find our planning approach to be liberating. As a result, they can focus on living an independent life filled with the freedom they have desired for years.

Our Power of the Purse Planning Process offers solutions to:

  1. No fear about retirement: after years of building a successful career in the hyper-competitive medical profession, what does retirement actually represent? “Will I have enough money to maintain my lifestyle?” “Will I be forced to make major changes?” Or, “Will I have to abandon my patients who I have spent years serving just because I retired?” The answers to these questions, and many others, are deeply considered during the planning process.
  1. No fear about being a widow: our client’s financial security, place of residence, ability to function in the same social circles, or lifestyle in general may be diminished if not ended while at the same time longing for the emotional support and care a spouse provided. We ease the pain of a future loss by helping each of our clients proactively plan.
  1. No fear about job loss: rarely is anyone prepared for a job loss. Rather than sit around and moan the loss of your job, use it as a time for re-creation, renewal, reinvention, and activation of the financial plan that was already put into place.
  1. No fear about divorce: the number one fear that keeps most people in a bad marriage is the fear of loneliness. However, the women who “walked” were more likely to emerge from the ordeal of later-life divorce far happier and emotionally healthier. Why? Preparation.

How to Find the Right Advisor

How to Find the Right Advisor

How do you find the “right” financial advisor? And of course, the answer is, “It depends.” A person who is 20-years-old and starting an investment program has totally different needs from a 55-year-old independent professional woman looking for retirement planning. It is not a one-size-fits-all process.

The good news?

We developed 14 questions you can ask yourself to increase the likelihood of finding a financial advisor who is the best match for your needs, priorities, and interests.

Taking a few minutes now to answer these questions can save you hours, weeks, or months down the road and can also help you find a partner you can turn to and trust for years to come.

Concierge Services for WoS Clients

Concierge Services for WoS Clients

What would you do if you had more time? Spend it with your mate, your children, your parents, your hobbies, your other family members, or travel? Ah, but you don’t have that kind of time.

Clients of Women of Substance have available to them an exclusive concierge service designed for the time-starved professional woman. Once a client of WoS, you would have a pick of services tailored for your stage in life and your personal needs. We make it very simple.

In your relationship with us, our Power of the Purse Planning Process entails a custom-designed portfolio management system created for your current and future financial situation. As your needs change, so will your portfolio. As a part of that management program, we offer a small increase in the management fees to allow for your participation in our exclusive concierge program. No monthly fees, no invoices, no separate bills to pay. Once we determine what services you need, we will offer a refined list of vendors who can supply the labor, consulting, errand running, and personal pampering you need. These vendors will offer a discount for clients of WoS, a time- and money-saving effort only for our clients.

Your decision to retain their services creates a contract between you and these lifesavers. You are free to terminate those relationships at any time. Accordingly, our fees as a liaison for that service will cease as well. Services include:

  • Pet sitters
  • Veterinarians
  • House cleaning
  • Meal prep and food shopping
  • Catering
  • Dry-cleaning and laundry
  • Car maintenance
  • Caregivers
  • Tutors
  • Landscapers and lawn care
  • Fashion consulting and purchasing
  • Specialty gifts
  • Party planning
  • Other one-time needs, such as movers, realtors, house emptying, travel agents

Here at Women of Substance, we realize time is the most important resource busy women never have enough of. To remove some of the worry about how “good am I?” as a mother, wife, daughter, sister vs. the “Being the best physician I can be”, these services can add immeasurably to the quality of your life.

Consider it done! What a relief.
